Historical note
Pepperdine began its first international program in 1963 with the inauguration of the Year-in-Europe program, which sent Pepperdine
students to Heidelberg, Germany, for an academic year to study and travel in Europe. International programs have since expanded
to include seven residential locations on four continents, along with summer programs in various locations.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of printed materials and photographs related to the Year-in-Europe (YIE), travel study, and other
programs offered by Pepperdine. Printed materials include correspondence related to the founding of the Year-in-Europe programs
in Heidelberg, Germany; general correspondence about international programs; press releases and articles; brochures for YIE,
travel study and international summer advantage programs; postcards; memorabilia; internship information for the London program;
an account of living in the Moore Haus for five months in 1956, by Mary Williams Schaller (while it was still owned by the
US Army); and a scrapbook of the first YIE class in 1963-1964 documenting their time in Europe as well as their later accomplishments
upon returning to Pepperdine. Also included in the collection are a number of photographs and slides including pictures of
faculty members; various trips taken by students of a number of European locations; group photographs from current students
as well as alumni reunions; Moore Haus in Heidelberg; the London house before the renovations in 2009; the Florence house
and various trips around Italy; and miscellaneous photographs of students both studying and traveling. Materials in the collection
range from 1955 to 2011

The collection is organized into the following series: 1. General; 2. England; 3. France; 4. Germany; 5. Italy; 6. Russia;
and 7. Washington, D.C. Within each series, materials are arranged alphabetically by folder title.
