CSUN Freshman Common Read, Changing Communities Oral Interviews Collection
Dates:
2021
Creators:
California State University, Northridge. University Library
Abstract:
The California State University, Northridge Freshman Seminar (U100) program includes a Community-Based Learning component. The shift to online learning at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020 meant that existing in-person relationships for this purpose were no longer viable. Special Collections and Archives collaborated with U100 faculty to provide a viable online option to fulfill this requirement. Professor Reza Sayed created an assignment for students based on themes found in the 2021-2022 Freshman Common Read, When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir by Patrisse Kahn-Cullors and Asha Bandele. Students completed oral interviews, "To explore the ways in which people in Southern California have experienced and/or adapted to new communities." Interviews are arranged alphabetically by last name of interviewer.
