    Collection Scope and Content

The Kathleen Harris photograph collection, 1914-1965, (SAFR 24247, P98-024) is comprised of photographs mainly of Pacific Coast merchant steamships. The collection has been processed to the Collection level and is open for use.
Contains photographs of cargo steamships underway and docked, 1914-1965. There are 17 unique photographic images in 19 physical forms (black-and-white photographic prints). Most locations are unknown, but some have been identified as the San Francisco Bay Area, California; Australia, and France. Photographers Joe D. Williamson and Howard Wood were based in the state of Washington, so some of the photographs may have been taken in the Seattle region. All of the vessels, possibly with the exception of EXHIBITOR, had a home port located on the Pacific Coast (either San Francisco, California; Portland, Oregon; or Seattle, Washington) at some point during their career. Some of the vessels were built during World War II as Victory Ships (ALLEGHENY VICTORY and PERMANENTE SILVERBOW, ex SILVERBOW VICTORY) or Liberty Ships (HANNIBAL HAMLIN and OLYMPIC PIONEER, ex JAMES A. DRAIN).
