Biography/Administrative History
Albert DeRome was born September 27, 1914, near San Francisco. He lived in San Jose, San Francisco, and Pacific Grove, California.
He passed away in San Jose in 1998.
Scope and Content of Collection
Correspondence, manuscripts, notes, advertisements, and extensive photographs taken by Mr. DeRome documenting urban renewal
and redevelopment efforts, as well as opposition to these projects, in San Jose, California, during the late 1960s to early
1990s. The Auzerais, Park City, and San Antonio Plaza projects are well-documented. DeRome's photographs portray downtown
San Jose between 1967 and 1985, including the demolition of the Bank of America building, and a large series taken in 1967
and 1968 of retail shops and shoppers along First Street and other central downtown streets.
