Background

Scope and content:

The collection consists of ephemera, clippings, personal snapshots, and publications concerning the two Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles in 1932 and 1984. Of note are Richard Moore’s three scrapbooks donated by Terry Chambers. Richard F. Moore won a gold medal in the 1932 Olympics as one of the twelve crewmen aboard the 50-foot Angelita. In 1984, this boat was purchased and given to Peter Ueberroth, head of the 1984 Olympics, who had the yacht restored. It was used as the Flag Ship for those Olympic races off Long Beach. Moore was also a staff member working for the 1984 Olympic Organizing Committee, and participated in more than 24 pre-Olympic events sharing his experiences as a 1932 Olympian.

Acquisition information:
The bulk of the collection was donated by Terry Chambers in 2005, with other materials added from Mary Ann Hemphill, 2006, Evaline Gibbs, 1997, and Shirley Pumphrey.
