    Biography

    John Truwe was a make-up artist who worked principally at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios from the late 1940s to 1978.

    Collection Scope and Content Summary

    The John Truwe papers span the years 1922-1978 (bulk 1938-1977) and encompass 15 linear feet. There are makeup cards and a small number of schedules and cast lists from a few of the films on which Truwe worked. The film with the most complete coverage is KING KONG (1976). There are call sheets and crew lists for a few television series and a small amount of correspondence and miscellaneous material about MGM. The photograph series consists of around 12,600 photographic prints, 669 transparencies, makeup charts, still books, and a 200-page scrapbook that contains both textual materials and photographs. More than 450 MGM productions are represented by photographs, including makeup tests and wardrobe reference, candids, behind-the-scenes, and portraits. More than 200 actors are depicted in the biography photographs. The portraits, primarily makeup test and wardrobe reference photographs, are from unidentified productions.
