The Hercules (built 1907; tugboat) and Goliah (built 1907; tugboat) photographs, 1908, (SAFR 24851, P16-015) are comprised of photographs of the Pacific Coast tugboats HERCULES and GOLIAH in San Francisco, California, and HERCULES in Seattle, Washington. The collection has been processed to the Collection level and is open for use.

Contains 2 black-and-white photographic prints of HERCULES (built 1907; tugboat) and her sister ship GOLIAH (built 1907; tugboat).

1. Goliah (built 1907; tugboat) and Hercules (built 1907; tugboat) alongside a pier in San Francisco, California, 1908. 1 black-and-white photographic print, 4 x 5 in. Bow view of the vessels. GOLIAH is on the left, and HERCULES is on the right next to what appears to be the S.F. Bay Improvement Co. pier. There is a smaller sign on the pier for Napa Gravel & Material Co.

2. Hercules (built 1907; tugboat) underway, port broadside view, in Elliot Bay, Seattle, Washington, 1908. 1 black-and-white photographic copy print, 8 x 10 in. "To Dan. From his Old Shipmate Bert" was inscribed on the original image. "D. Hopkins Collection" is handwritten on the verso of the print.

Acquisition information:

SAFR-02522

The photographs were given to the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association by an unknown source. The Association donated the items to the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, and they were formally accessioned in 2016. The photograph of HERCULES in Seattle was received in a frame with the following information handwritten on the backing: "To: Dad. From: Bud. April 1995." (Note: The frame was discarded. See the collection file for a scanned copy of the backing.)
