Captain Leonard H. Williams was a
British national born December 12, 1906 in Cape Town, South Africa. He served as an officer
within the Marine Department of the Chinese Maritime Customs Service from 1936-1949. The
collection includes official documents from Williams' time with the Chinese Maritime
Customs, including his memo of service, identification papers, and correspondence. The
collection also contains photographs, a diary, a farewell certificate, an unofficial
register of WWII-era sea vessels, and research materials used by Williams' son while writing
the 2004 publication,
