Historical note
The College of Fine Arts at the University of California, Los Angeles, was founded in 1939 as the College of Applied Arts.
Degrees offered include Bachelor of Arts in art, music, and physical education (including dance courses). The College was
renamed as the College of Fine Arts in 1960. Placing particular emphasis on undergraduate liberal education, the College offered
Bachelor of Arts degrees in art, dance, music, and theater arts, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in business education.
In the late 1980's the College underwent restructuring, leading to its division into the School of the Arts and the School
of Theater, Film and Television in the early 1990's.
Scope and Content
Record Series 122 contains art project, press, and event files of students at the College of Fine Arts at the University of
California, Los Angeles, generated between 1937-1981. Project files feature the artistic work of students. Included work is
primarily that of original fashion and costume design sketches, but also includes booklets, slides, and photographs of student
work. Press files include clippings, event invitations, and some correspondence regarding the work and recognition of graduate
students and alumni. Event files include clippings, photographs, and organizational materials of events staged by or involving
graduate students.
