Biographical Note
J.D. (Jacob Ditzler) Craighead, started a cattle ranch in La Junta, Colorado, in
1905, which was the beginning of the Hereford cattle industry in that area.
Scope and Content
The collection contains the family, personal, and business papers of cattle rancher
J.D. (Jacob Ditzler) Craighead. In addition to the material on the Craighead ranch,
there is also information on various irrigation projects including the Otero
Irrigation District. There are also 24 diaries (1931-1959) and 11 account books
(1899-1949) along with government documents and maps.
