Abstract: The San Francisco Maritime State Historic Park photograph collection, 1965-1975, (SAFR 23858, P91-067) is comprised mainly
of photographs of ALMA (built 1891; scow schooner), C.A. THAYER (built 1895; schooner, 3m), EUREKA (built 1890; paddle ferry),
and WAPAMA (built 1915; steam schooner) as museum vessels while part of the San Francisco Maritime State Historic Park in
San Francisco, California. The collection has been processed to the Collection level and is open for use.

The collection was transferred from the National Park Service Western Regional Office by Gordon Chappell, Regional Historian,
in October 1991.
Historical or Biographical Note
The San Francisco Maritime State Historic Park was established in 1956 and existed under this name until 1977 when it became
the National Maritime Museum, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. In 1988, the National Maritime Museum became
a separate national park called the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.
Collection Scope and Content
The San Francisco Maritime State Historic Park photograph collection, 1965-1975, (SAFR 23858, P91-067) is comprised mainly
of photographs of ALMA (built 1891; scow schooner), C.A. THAYER (built 1895; schooner, 3m), EUREKA (built 1890; paddle ferry),
and WAPAMA (built 1915; steam schooner) as museum vessels while part of the San Francisco Maritime State Historic Park in
San Francisco, California. The collection has been processed to the Collection level and is open for use.
Contains photographs of San Francisco Maritime State Historic Park in San Francisco, California, 1965-1975. There are 29 unique
photographic images in 46 physical forms (26 black-and-white negatives, 3 color negatives, 15 black-and-white photographic
prints, and 2 color photographic prints). Includes photographs of ALMA (built 1891; scow schooner), C.A. THAYER (built 1895;
schooner, 3m), EUREKA (built 1890; paddle ferry), and WAPAMA (built 1915; steam schooner) moored at Hyde Street Pier, as well
as photographs of a 1970 National Maritime Day ceremony held on board C.A. THAYER. There are also photographs of a speaker
tower and the cable car turnaround in Aquatic Park. Two additional photographs show POTOMAC (built 1934; power yacht) in Los
Angeles, California.

- Items 05-20: National Maritime Day ceremony on board C.A. THAYER at Hyde Street Pier, 1970 May 22. Consists of photographs
of attendees at the seaman's memorial service. The speakers, who likely appear in some of the photographs, included Thomas
J Patterson, Jr., Milton M. Frincke, Joseph C. Rumberg, Jr., and Lt. Governor Ed Reinecke. Sixteen images in twenty-nine physical
forms: (16) black-and-white negatives, 35mm; (13) black-and-white photographic prints, 3.5 x 5 in. (Items 12, 17, and 18 do
not have print forms.)

Arranged with San Francisco Maritime State Historic Park photographs roughly in chronological order, followed by photographs
of POTOMAC.
