The CSRM Postcard Collection contains about 15,000 postcards. os, boats, bridges, construction, fairs, incline railroads, intraurban transit, locomotives (steam and diesel) stations, named trains, minature railroads, narrow gauge railroads, terminals and tunnels.The collection dates from aproximately 1905 through 1970.

Besides being a form of correspondence, postcards were bought for the scenes and events that were important at the time. The collection has been developed by donations from individuals who believed the cards had relevance to railroads and railroading, as well as other subjects throughout the United States.

- Collection has accrued since 1981 through multiple donations.

The CSRM Postcard Collection is processed and maintained by Library & Archives' staff. In 2018-2019, volunteer Dennis Gallagher re-structed and inventoried the collection.

The CSRM Postcard Collection consists of four series: Series 1: Subjects Series 2: Railroads Series 3: Denver & Rio Grande Series 4: Southern Pacific.
