Records of the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor, Health Sciences contain subject files, departmental materials, and
committees. Materials document aspects of the administration related to the UC San Diego School of Medicine and the UC San
Diego Medical Center.
Background
The Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor, Health Services at the University of California, San Diego was established in
1973 with V. Wayne Kennedy serving as the first associate vice chancellor. The Office is responsible for the administrative
aspects of Health Sciences, including the School of Medicine and the UCSD Medical Center. When Kennedy was appointed, the
Associate Vice Chancellor was responsible for managing and utilizing the financial, physical, and human resources of Health
Sciences at the university; including the analysis and formulation of policy and guidelines affecting the Health Sciences.
In addition, the Associate Vice Chancellor served as the principal liaison to campus and university entities on resource matters,
as well as the Director of the UCSD Medical Center; reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor, Health Sciences.
