Contains records of Sherman Lewis and the Hayward Area Planning Association (HAPA) an area planning and environmental group
based out of Hayward, California, dating from approximately 1978-2012. Records include HAPA accounts and minutes; Hayward
area general plans and city election materials; traffic studies and environmental impact reports; legal documents related
to lawsuits involving Sherman Lewis, HAPA and the Hayward 1900; photographs and maps. Materials are organized chronologically
and cover Hayward area locales Walpert Ridge, Hayward hills, Mission Garin, Ponderosa, Hayward Golf Course, Blue Rock Country
Club, Bailey Ranch, Stonebrae, and Rancho Palomares.
Background
Sherman Lewis is Professor Emeritus in the Political Science Department at California State University, East Bay. He is the
author of two books, Reform and the Citizen: The Major Policy Issues of Contemporary America and Urban Government for Metropolitan Lima, as well as a number of articles and reports. Lewis also serves as President of the Hayward Area Planning Association.
