    Abstract: The Harvey Yorke Photographic Collection consists of photographs, negatives, and color slides dating from May 1967 to 1972. It includes several images relating to the San Francisco State College strike, 1968-1969, including images of campus rallies and gatherings, police presence on campus, press conferences and meetings, strike activity, Samuel Ichiye (S.I.) Hayakawa, and elected officials. There are also two audio recordings.

    Arrangement

    The Harvey Yorke Photographic Collection is arranged into two series. Series 1: Photographs and Color Slides, 1967-1977, and Series 2: Sound Recordings, 1969.

    Biographical / Historical

    Harvey Yorke became San Francisco State College's press officer in May 1968, shortly before the historic student strike launched in November and S.I. Hayakawa began his tenure (1968-1973) as college president. Yorke continued to work with Hayakawa when he left higher education to successfully run for the U.S. Senate in 1976. Yorke set up the senator's press office in Washington, D.C. and managed his San Francisco office for two years.
