Biographical / historical:: Jōdo Shinshū Honganji-ha is a school of Japanese Pure Land Buddhism founded on the teachings of Shinran Shonin (1173-1263) during the Kamakura period. Over centuries, it became one of Japan's largest Buddhist traditions. Beginning in the 1890s, the Kyoto headquarters guided the establishment of overseas missions and temples, extending its influence globally.
