    Historical note

The Board of Regents currently has forty members, and is the legal governing body and chief policy board of Pepperdine University. Former regents are recognized as "Life regents," and are non-voting members. The university administration works with the Board of Regents to shape policy and direction for the University. Pepperdine had multiple names for governing boards over the years, including the Board of Counselors, President's Board, Board of Trustees, and others. Between 1975 and 1976, the governing board was expanded and the name was changed from the Board of Trustees to the Board of Regents, while the members of the former Board of Trustees became the Religious Standards Committee.

    Scope and Content

The collection contains materials from the Pepperdine University Board of Regents between 1976 and 2005. Materials are primarily meeting minutes and agendas from meetings between 1976 and 1981, but other items include member lists and biographies (including committee member lists), correspondence, resolutions passed, memorandums, newspaper clippings amendments to the bylaws and articles of incorporation, photographs from meetings, and two VHS tapes of board meetings (one of a round table meeting held at the Brock House, and another of Howard A. White's resignation as president in 1984).

    Arrangement

Materials are grouped by topic. Meeting minutes are arranged chronologically.
