Biographical / Historical
William D. Vennard (1909-1971) was an American singer and vocal pedagogist renowned for his research in the anatomy and physiology
of voice production. He fostered collaborative efforts between singers, physicists, psychologists, and voice scientists to
advance the field. Vennard became a faculty member of the USC School of Music in 1946 and served as the voice department's
chair from 1950 to 1971.
Scope and Contents
Collection consists of the audio recordings, research, and faculty papers of American singer, instructor, and vocal pedagogist
William Vennard (1909-1971). Materials include stereograms, xrays of the throat and larynx, correspondence, study questionnaires,
course descriptions, publications, books, open reel audio tapes, and audio cassettes. Also included is the program from the
2018 symposium The Art and Science of Great Teaching: Celebrating the Legacy of William Vennard
