Background
William D. Vennard (1909-1971) was an American singer and vocal pedagogist renowned for his research in the anatomy and physiology
of voice production. He fostered collaborative efforts between singers, physicists, psychologists, and voice scientists to
advance the field. Vennard became a faculty member of the USC School of Music in 1946 and served as the voice department's
chair from 1950 to 1971.
