Background
The UC Davis College of Engineering is home to eight departments offering twelve undergraduate majors. Established in 1962 with Professor of Agricultural Engineering Roy Bainer as founding dean, the college was housed in Walker Hall, originally known as the Agricultural Engineering Building. As the College of Engineering grew, more space was needed. Engineering I was built in 1967 and renamed Bainer Hall in 1969. Engineering II opened in 1992 and in 2003 was renamed John D. Kemper Hall after the college's second dean. Engineering III, later renamed Mohammed S. Ghausi Hall for the third dean of the college, opened in 2000.
