    Biographical / Historical

    George N. Lorentz was born on January 16, 1911 and raised by his parents Nicholas J. and Margaret E. Lorentz in the state of Nebraska. On February 15, 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was discharged a year later on February 1st. On November 6, 1953, he married Bernice A. Meschke. According to his resignation form from the Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Railway Company, George retired in Los Angeles on January 31, 1975 as a switchman foreman. George passed away September 6, 1994.

    Scope and Contents

    The George N. Lorentz photographs and resignation forms contain portraits of George Lorentz at the Los Angeles rail yards during his retirement in 1975. Of particular interest are his resignation forms to and from Superintendent L.D. Eidson for the purpose of applying for annuity under the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Act.
