    Biographical / Historical

    The NBC Symphony Orchestra was a radio orchestra first broadcasted on November 13, 1937 and continued until it was disbanded in 1954. David Sarnoff, the president of the Radio Corporation of America, created the symphony especially for the conductor Arturo Toscanini. The NBC Symphony performed weekly radio concert broadcasts.

    Scope and Contents

    This collection consists of the audio recordings of the NBC Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra broadcasted on the radio from 1937 to 1954. The orchestra was conducted by Arturo Toscanini and Frank Black. They played songs such as Fair Maid of Perth, The Blue Danube, Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 4, Op. 36 and 1812 Overture, Slavonic Dance no. 1, and Les Preludes.
