Abstract: John H. Shelton was a conductor for the Southern Division of the Pacific Electric Railway for several years. The collection
is comprised of memorabilia used by a Pacific Electric Railway conductor, which includes badges, lapel pins, buttons, and
keys. Also included is a letter from the superintendent, a photograph, and an “Agreement Between Pacific Electric Railway…”
booklet. Some memorabilia are without a date, but it appears the majority are from the 1930s and 1940s.

Biography/Administrative History
John H. Shelton was a conductor for the Southern Division of the Pacific Electric Railway for several years. His wife, Lydia
Shelton, also worked in the Southern Division as a Ticket Office Clerk. They lived in Long Beach, California, and had two
daughters, Dorothy and Doris.
Scope and Content
The collection is comprised of memorabilia used and accumulated by Pacific Electric Railway conductor, John H. Shelton, which
includes badges, lapel pins, buttons, and keys. Also included are a letter from the Southern Division superintendent, a photograph,
and a Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen union agreement. Many of the memorabilia are without a date, it seems the majority
are from the 1930s and 1940s.
Arrangement
Collection is described at the item level. Boxes 2 and 3 are small cartons housed inside Box 1 along with the two folders.
