These papers document the career of conductor and brakeman Frank R. King Jr. during his 42-year career with the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway at Bakersfield, California. They include King's time books, conductors train records, time records, and various publications related to his work.

Frank R. King, Jr. was born in 1930. His family moved frequently, and he attended 38 schools across Kansas, Colorado, California, and Oregon before graduating from high school in Canon City, Colorado. He had two daughters: Linda Jo, from his first marriage to Verona Levine, and Dixie, from his marriage to Rose Koehler as well as two stepdaughters from this marriage: Sylvia and Patricia afrom his marriage to Rose. Mr. King served in the Marine Corps fighting in Korea. In 1954, shortly after his second marriage, Frank and his family moved to Bakersfield, California, where Frank worked for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway for the next 42 years. He became an avid fraveller after Rose's death in 1974. In 1997, after retiring from the railroad, King enrolled at Bakersfield College and transferred to Cal State, Bakerfield, where he received a BA in History in 2005. He died on March 13, 2014.
