Collection consists of reel-to-reel audio recordings of various USC ensembles under the direction of William Schaefer.
Background
William Schaefer (1918-2009) was an American conductor, arranger, and composer. From 1942 to 1946, he worked as a military
bandmaster in the South Pacific. From 1947-1952, he led the Kiltie Band of the Carnegie Institute of Technology. In 1952,
Schaefer joined the music faculty at the University of Southern California. He also conducted the USC Thornton Wind Ensemble
and was director of the USC Trojan Marching Band.
