Biographical / Historical
The Pongsan mask dance has its origin in music and dance from the late Koryo dynasty (918-1392) and from the Pongsan area
of North Hwanghae Province, North Korea. The performance depicts a Medieval satirical dance representing the moral corruption
and inefficiency of the feudal ruling class.
Scope and Contents
Collection consists of color slides depicting a folk-dance performance of the Pongsan mask dance in North Korea. Slides are
35mm Kodak Ektachrome color slides with descriptions handwritten in Korean in pencil on the slide mount.
