This collection comprises the records of the University of California, Irvine, Department of
Asian American Studies. The Department of
Asian American Studies was founded out of student activism in the early 1990s and offers an undergraduate major, minor, the country's first
4+1 B.A./M.A. program, and a graduate emphasis in the School of Humanities. The records include physical and digital materials
pertaining to the first years of the department. It includes administrative documents pertaining to the establishment of the
Asian American Studies major, minor, and masters; departmental five year plans; full time equivalent (FTE) requests; department course listings;
student publications; and outreach events.
