Background

Scope and content:

The collection features episodes of the public affairs program Hot Talk, hosted by Saul Landau, director of digital media and international outreach programs for the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Hot Talk focused on topics in the arts, humanities, and social sciences through in-depth interviews with experts.

The program examined a wide range of issues across social, political, and cultural issues. It critically analyzed media coverage of the Iraq War, U.S. foreign policies, and government secrecy, shedding light on their broader global impact. Key themes included socio-economic challenges, international conflicts, and the influence of neoconservative ideologies.

Discussions also explored race relations, the struggles of Indigenous communities, and cultural identity shifts within minority groups in the United States. Environmental issues were a recurring focus, with critiques of policies, corporate pollution, and the ties between government and industry.

Historical and geopolitical topics featured prominently as well, such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Middle Eastern history, and the experiences of the Jewish diaspora.
