- Walkabout International was a non-profit, volunteer led organization to promote walking in urban, sub-urban, and rural environments locally and internationally. It was founded in 1977 in San Diego as a way for people to get exercise and stay healthy while immersing themselves in local history. Each walk was led by a knowledgeable and experienced local who guided the group through some of the hidden gems of the area while sharing facts and local history. It was dissolved in 2023.

The collection consists of the organization’s newsletters, board minutes and annual retreat minutes, a “Walkabout Through the Years” Book, two photos, two boxes of pins from the hats of “Downtown Sam” Minsker, and a 7’x8’ painting of M.L. King on unstretched canvas, by Mario Torero. Due to its size, the painting housed separately from the rest of the collection. Not every month has a newsletter or board minutes included in the collection as it was received. There were no board minutes for 1998 included.
