    Biography/Administrative History

    Doug Moore became a prominent figure in San Diego's LGBT community after becoming involved with the Oceanside Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) and becoming an organizer for San Diego Pride in 1977. Moore has been credited with helping to institutionalize Pride, both in San Diego and across the globe. Moore worked with other LGBT activists in Boston to create the National Association of Gay and Lesbian Pride, with first met in 1983 with 6 founding cities (San Diego, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, San Francisco, and Chicago). The organization went on to become InterPride, the International Association of Lesbian/Gay [Bisexual and Transgender] Pride Coordinators (IAL/GPC). InterPride would go on to bring Pride parades and festivals to places around the country and around the world. Moore was committed to the preservation of the history of Pride, compiling an extensive collection of Pride materials from around the globe, including t-shirts, posters, photographs, buttons, pins, programs, banners, and founding materials of major LGBT Pride organizations.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    This collection contains a wide variety of materials relating to San Diego Lambda Pride, LGBT organizations in and outside of San Diego, InterPride, the International Association of Lesbian/Gay Pride Coordinators (IAL/GPC), California/Consolidated Association of Pride, Inc. (CAPI), and other organizations that Doug Moore was involved in. The collection spans 22 boxes that are housed in the main stacks, and additional boxes of ephemera and memorabilia. These materials include, pride guides and other Pride related materials from San Diego and across the world (Norway, Brazil, Germany, England, Canada, and more), founding documents and other materials from organizations that Moore was involved with (IAL/GPC, CAPI, InterPride), and many t-shirts, banners, and memorabilia. Documents in the collections include Pride planning materials from various locations across the world, InterPride conference materials, administrative materials, and Pride guides to name a few. Separated items include buttons, pins, posters, t-shirts and other ephemera. The dates of these materials span from 1975 to 2015.
