Artificial collection
of about 200 original photographic prints by more than 25 significant 19th and 20th century
photographers and photo studios covering a broad range of subjects and includes portraits,
landscapes, panoramic views, cityscapes and buildings of San Francisco and
California.
Background
The collection was collected and assembled by the San Francisco History Center, San
Francisco Public Library. The creation of the collection and the selection process focused
on significant 19th and early 20th century photographers and photo studios associated with
San Francisco and California. The collection includes multiple accessions and donations
acquired through 2006.

Restrictions
Dependent upon photographer, some photographs are in the Public Domain. All requests for
permission to publish from photographs must be submitted in writing to the Photo Curator.
Permission for publication is given on behalf of the San Francisco Public Library as the
owner of the physical items.
