Description
The Compton High School Time Capsule Collection includes information on the cornerstone, correspondence, city maps, pamphlets, school and club yearbooks, history on the city of Compton, school and city newspapers, information on the 1933 earthquake, and club and organization's list of officers and members.
Background
The Compton Union High School Time Capsule, referred to within the collection as a cornerstone, was originally placed in the school's administration building on September 4, 1903. On July 1, 1925 the cornerstone was removed due to the fact that the administrative building was being relocated. The time capsule would be reburied on September 1925 along with new material. The Long Beach 6.3 Mw earth-quake, on March 10, 1933, caused great damage to the city of Compton and their schools, forcing a complete demolition and reconstruction. The time capsule would be reburied again on October 1935 along with new material.
