Biography/Administrative History
The San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee is the organizing body of San Francisco’s Pride parade and festival, which
has run each year in various forms since 1970. Successively known as the Gay-In, Christopher Street West, Gay Freedom Day,
and the International Lesbian & Gay Freedom Day Parade, it assumed its current name in 1995 and now attracts more than one
million spectators each year.
Scope and Content of Collection
The collection largely consists of ephemera, photographs, and video from parades between 1995 and 2019, although each of the
years 1979-1994 is represented. Ephemera include programs, magazines, pocket-sized Pride Guides, posters, buttons, pins, t-shirts,
ribbons celebrating winning contingents and Grand Marshals, news clippings, and similar items. Of particular interest are
2010 parade materials rendered in braille. The audiovisual materials include photographs and video in a number of formats,
including prints, slides, digital photos and videos on CD, and Super-8. For the later years of the collection, organizational
materials are also fairly well represented, including meeting agendas, board packets, and manuals. GSSO linked terms: http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/GSSO_001021;
