The Joseph G. Brosmer Collection documents pro-grower, anti-union activities in the agricultural industry, primarily in the state of California during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The types of documents include personal correspondence with growers and other consultants, copies of labor contracts and collective bargaining agreements, anti-union newsletters, notes from grievance meetings, transcripts of court testimony, arbitration case documents, and related records. The Collection is divided into two series: Growers and Affiliated Organizations (1949-1996) and Agricultural Workers Unions and Affiliated Organizations (1948-1973).
Series I, Growers and Affiliated Organizations, consists primarily of Brosmer's consultant case files, including major growers such as DiGiorgio Fruit Corporation, E & J Gallo Winery Ranch, Mont La Salle Vineyards, Schenley Industries, Inc. and Talisman Sugar Corporation. The series also includes materials related to grower support groups. This series is arranged alphabetically.
Series II, Agricultural Workers Unions and Affiliated Organizations, consists of reports, flyers, newsletters, correspondence, pamphlets and other material related to the unionization of agricultural workers in the state of California. This series is arranged alphabetically.

Joseph Gordon Brosmer was born in Norwich, Chenango County, New York on October 17, 1918 to parents, Leon and Helen. Brosmer spent his childhood in New York, then came west to California sometime after 1939.
Brosmer is best known for his work as manager of the Agricultural Labor Bureau and consultant to commercial growers in the state of California during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Brosmer appears on the scene in California's Central Valley, the San Joaquin Valley, during the latter days of union activity by the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee, AFL (AWOC) and the emerging United Farm Workers Organizing Committee (UFWOC). Brosmer and the Agricultural Labor Bureau coordinated the response of California growers to the efforts of the unions to obtain collective bargaining agreements.
Brosmer passed away on July 19, 2008 at age 89, in Clovis, California.
