The materials consist of correspondence, legal briefs, newspaper clippings, newsletters, schoolwork, notebooks, manuscript drafts, pamphlets, and other materials. Siegfried Hesse was a radical lawyer from California. He attended the University of Southern California and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1946. Hesse then graduated from the University of California School of Law in 1950 and moved to Seattle focusing primarily on immigration cases and veterans' civil liberties. The immigration cases often related to the Smith and Walter-McCarran Acts. In the late 1950s, Hesse moved back to California and took a job as a legal editor at a publishing company, Bancroft Whitney.
