Record Series 401 contains the administrative files of Franklin D. Murphy from the period of time during which Murphy served
as UCLA Chancellor. Materials in this record series date from 1935-1971 and include correspondence, memorandum, and reports
on all aspects of UCLA university business as it relates to the campus, to the University of California system, to Los Angeles
and Southern California, and to UCLA's emergence as a major U.S. research university.
Background
Franklin D. Murphy served as UCLA's third Chancellor from 1960-1968. Murphy's two predecessors were:
Raymond B. Allen, 1952-1958
Vern O. Knudsen, 1959-1960 In 1969 Charles E. Young succeeded Murphy as UCLA Chancellor.
