Background
Steven S. Lemley attended Pepperdine University where he earned a B. A. in History in 1966 and a M. A. in History in 1970.
He later attended Ohio State University where he received a Ph.D. in Communication in 1973. Lemley worked at Lubbock Christian
University, first as Dean from 1978 to 1982, and then as President from 1982-1983, before he returned to Pepperdine University.
Lemley has held many roles at Pepperdine including Associate Dean of Student Life from 1972 to 1976, Dean of Student Life
from 1976 to 1978, Provost from 1993 to 2000, and most recently, as Associate Professor of Communication.The Provost is the chief academic officer of Pepperdine University and has responsibility, under the President, for the administration,
coordination and development of all academic activities and functions of the University. He/She works with the deans of Pepperdine's
five schools on all issues related to the effective planning and management of the university's academic resources. In addition,
he/she is directly responsible for the University's Disability Services Office and the office of the University Chaplain.
