    Abstract: The Angel City Chapter of Links, Inc. was founded in Los Angeles in February 1963 by ten Links, Inc. members who moved to Los Angeles from other parts of country. The Angel City Chapter has supported community-based institutions by sponsoring fund raising events, educational awareness projects and related benefits. The collection includes a variety of awards, certificates, club handbooks, ephemera, flyers, historical notebooks and summaries, invitations to functions, membership profiles, membership lists, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, photographs, and programs.

    Historical Note:

    Links, Inc., an African-American women's and family organization that works for the educational needs of children and young adults, has more than 274 chapters nation-wide with over 12,000 members. Other attendant organizations are the "Connecting Links," and "Heir-O-Links." The Los Angeles Chapter, also called the Angel City Chapter, was founded in February 1963 by ten transfer members who moved to Los Angeles from various chapters throughout the country.
    The Angel City Chapter has supported community-based institutions by sponsoring fund raising events, educational awareness projects and related benefits. In 1987, the Angel City Chapter sponsored its biggest fund raiser , The Affaire d' Honneur (Achievers Program), at the Century Plaza Hotel.

    Scope and Contents

    The Links, Inc., Angel City Chapter Collection includes information regarding the Links international non-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership primarily consists of professional women of color and is one of the nation's oldest and largest volunteer service organizations dedicated to the culture and economic success of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. The Links, Inc., Angel City Chapter Collection includes a variety of awards, certificates, club handbooks, ephemera, flyers, historical notebooks and summaries, invitations to functions, membership profiles, membership lists, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, photographs, programs and one special event book, The Links, Inc. L'Affaire D'Honneur, published in 1987. The collection is arranged in three series: Membership Records (circa 1979), Chronological History (1962-1980), and Photographs (1980-1987).
    Series I, Membership Records, contains photographs, newspaper clippings, fund-raising invitations, certificates, member handbooks and member profiles, as well as handwritten memos regarding the activities and personalities of the LINKS organization. Typed and mounted synopses of activities are included in most file folders.
    Series II, Chronological History, contains photographs, minutes, tribues to past presidencts, and related publicity files in scrapbook form created by the club historian. This series also contains information about LINKS' philanthropic "Achievers Program," with photographs and corresponding newspaper clippings about the sponsored students.
    Series III, Photographs, contains one photograph album.
