Background
Adam C. Higgins, native of Virginia, moved to Monmouth, Illinois, before the American Civil War. In August 1862 he became
chaplain of in the 83rd Regiment of Illinois Infantry, with the rank of Captain. After he was discharged from the service
in 1865, he returned to the ministry. In 1896 he practiced law in Chicago.
