    Biographical / Historical

    Ferdinand Canning Scott Schiller (1864-1937) was a German-British philosopher whose major interests were in the areas of metaphysics, logical theory, epistemology, philosophy of science and ethics. Schiller was an early supporter of Evolution and a founding member of the English Eugenics Society. Between the years 1893 and 1897 Schiller was an instructor at Cornell University. He became a fellow and tutor of Corpus Christi, Oxford University in 1897 and was a visiting professor at the University of Southern California from 1929 to 1937. He died after a lingering illness in Los Angeles, California, in August 1937.

    Scope and Contents

    A collection of approximately 390 items from 1887 to 1936, it consists of manuscripts of books and articles written by Ferdinand Canning Scott Schiller, including works on ethics, eugenics, science, and philosophy. Also included are book reviews written by Schiller and other authors.
