Abstract: The Selma, Alabama Civil Rights Movement Collection contains six flyers and one pamphlet regarding voter registration and
rights for African Americans; and civil rights events that took place in Selma, Alabama prior to the Selma-to-Montgomery marches
in 1965. Material in this collection was produced and distributed mostly by Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC),
the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), and Dallas County Voters League (DCVL).
Scope and Contents
The Selma, Alabama Civil Rights Movement Collection (circa 1965) contains six flyers and one pamphlet regarding voter registration
and rights for African Americans; and for civil rights events that took place in Selma, Alabama prior to the Selma-to-Montgomery
marches in 1965. Material in this collection was produced and distributed mostly by Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee
(SNCC), the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), and Dallas County Voters League (DCVL). Two of the leaflets announce
events that were to take place at the Brown Chapel, one of which Dr. [Martin Luther] King [Jr.] and Reverend Ralph Abernathy
were to be in attendance. Other flyers and the pamphlet in this collection discuss boycotting the purchase of goods made or
sold in Alabama until demands for voting rights were met.
