Biographical / historical:

Floyd Edgar “Frank” Sanesi was born January 23, 1920 to Joseph Bruno and Silla Masone Sanesi in Dunkirk, New York, and graduated in 1936 from Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, California. Before and after his war service, he worked as a toolmaker and machinist or Electrical Engineering and Manufacturing Corporation in Los Angeles, California. On June 26, 1944, he completed pilot training at Luke Field, Phoenix, Arizona and entered active service in the U.S. Army Air Corps the next day and piloted P-38 and P-51 fighter aircraft in the Pacific Theatre. Patrol and surveillance missions were his chief duties after the war ended. Sanesi also served as an instructor pilot in L-5 and AT-6 airplanes and performed additional duties as club officer group photographer, and control tower operator. He retired from the U.S. Air Force on April 1, 1967 as a Major. Frank passed away on June 4, 1997. His cremains were brought onboard the USS Jarrett and distributed at sea on August 14, 1997.
