Consists of documentation from Bird's tenure as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of California, from her court appointment
in 1977 by Governor Jerry Brown through the recall election in 1986. Includes a significant amount of materials from her role
as administrator of the court and from the three elections in which she was on the ballot (1978, 1982, 1986). Notably, Bird
received a great deal of opposition (hate) mail, including harrasing, obscene and violent threats, mainly in reaction to her
rulings against the death penalty on every capital punishment case that came before her. Bird also received a significant
amount of support from fellow judges, court colleagues and the general public, which is evident in the correspondence and
