Biography
George Abel Baldwin was born on the Sandwich (Hawaiian) Islands in 1880. The Baldwin family came to California and lived in
Stockton in 1900. Baldwin was the unofficial "Commander" of Alamo Square Camp 22. Two years after the earthquake, Baldwin
married Mabel Estella Minahen and lived in the Richmond District until his death in 1961. After his commander role, Baldwin
worked as a cable car grip man and motorman. Years later, he served as a manager of the Bank of America located at Market
and Powell.
