Biographical / Historical
The Gardena Willows is 13.6 acres of land located in the City of Gardena in Los Angeles, CA, which would be known as the Dominguez
Channel. The indigenous people who resided in this region were the Tongva, later named as Gabrielino Indians (named after
the Mission San Gabriel). In the 1970s, the City of Gardena initially planned on filling in The Willows with other uses; however,
local residents pursed resistances in order to save and preserve The Willows. Such types of wildlife that are home to the
Gardena Willows Wetland Preserve include Pacific tree frogs and lizards. The three major willows that are native to the Gardena
Willows Wetland Preserve include Goodding's black willow, arrroyo willows, and narrow leaf willows.
