Margaret Hubbard Jones was born 3 June 1904 in Portland, Maine. She received a bachelor's degree in Chemisty from Radcliffe College in 1924, a master's at Vassar, and an M.D. from Cornell Medical School in 1933. She first worked with congenitally crippled children through the Wyoming State Department of Health before moving to Los Angeles in 1943 to join the Holleran Pediatric Group. In 1949, she started her own practice in Glendale and founded a school for children with cerebral palsy (CP) in order to test and implement her ideas about the need for daily, comprehensive therapy for infants and children with CP. She was professor at the Pediatrics Department at the University of California, Los Angeles from 1954 to 1972, where she was the founder and benefactor of the UCLA Center for Cerebral Palsy. She became Dr. Margaret Jones-Kanaar at age 84 when she married Dr. Adrian Kanaar, a foreign surgeon in the British Army, who died in 1993. Jones-Kanaar died in Pacific Palisades, California at age 97 on 9 December 2001.
