    Biography

    Robert H. Lloyd began working for Southern Pacific's Western Division in July 1960 as a brakeman and was promoted to conductor on May 9, 1966. The United Transportation Union appointed Mr. Lloyd as steward of local 239 in Febrary 1973. His wife was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary to the UTU lodge 957. She served as lodge Secretary and President for a time.
    Robert and his wife had three sons. He died in 2018.

    Scope and Contents

    The Robert H. Lloyd Papers document his employment as a conductor and brakeman on the Southern Pacific Transportation Co.'s Western Division between 1960 and 1983 as well as his membership and his position as a steward of the United Transporation Union local 239. Papers include: timebooks, pay stubs, time return and delay reports, and time correction notices. Of special interest is the file documenting Mr. Lloyd's attempt to be reinstated after the SP let him go following accusions of participating in an illegal work stopage in April 1973. This includes a detailed description Mr. Lloyd's activities at the time and the extent of his participation. Another item of note is volume 1 issue 2 of the SP Western Division newsletter "The Western Division Highball" which grades Western Division officials on their performance, reliability, and empathy.
