Biographical Note
Clifford Park Baldwin (1889-1961) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Feb. 14, 1889. Baldwin moved to southern California in 1911
and had homes in Montrose and Carlsbad. He studied painting locally with Jean Mannheim, Paul Lauritz, and George Demont Otis.
While on the staff of the Southwest Museum from 1933-41, he illustrated the books
Gypsum Cave and
Navajo Weaving.
Baldwin died in Oceanside, California on July 3, 1961.
Scope and Contents
This collection contains manuscripts by Clifford Park Baldwin, correspondence, hand-drawn maps, notes and photographs from
1934 to 1939. Includes three typescripts by Baldwin: "Caves and Petroglyphs of California," Saline Valley," and "Cave at Garbanza."
The latter includes a newspaper clipping and a map.
