This collection features approximately twenty cartons of documents from 1920s to 1996 by Ernst Krebs Sr. and Jr., mostly created by Ernst Krebs Jr. It includes correspondence, laboratory notebooks, unpublished manuscripts, and regulatory files. Scope and content:

Approximately twenty cartons of papers spanning the dates circa 1920s - 1996 of materials created by physician Ernst Krebs Sr. and Ernst Krebs Jr. The majority of materials were created by the latter. The papers include correspondence, laboratory notebooks, unpublished manuscripts, new drug applications and subject files concerning drug regulatory issues. Approximately 75% of the collection concerns Laetrile, 15% of the collection concerns Pangamic Acid, and 5% of the collection concerns Leptonin - which was discovered by Ernst Krebs Sr. One box of a/v materials including film reels and cassette tapes.

Biographical / historical:

Ernst Krebs Jr. was the co-discoverer of Vitamin B-17 (Laetrile) and Vitamn B-15 (Pangamic Acid). Born in 1912, Krebs attended Hahnemann Medical College from 1938-1941, recieved his AB from the University of Illinois in 1942, and pursued post-graduate studies at the University of California Medical School in San Francisco from 1943-1945 under the direction of Chauncey Leake. Krebs is also known for the introduction of dichloracetate as a medical therapy in 1970, and as the clinical developer of leptonin, an antibiotic, fungistate and virustat.
