The collection consists of original prints taken by staff and freelance photographers for the Peninsula-Times Tribune, many of which include caption and photo credit information. They are organized in original folders by subject, and have been cataloged at item level. The bulk of the images were taken in the late 1970s through early 1991, though there are historic prints from other sources included.

The Peninsula-Times Tribune was organized in April 1979 from a merger of the Palo Alto Times and the Redwood City Tribune, both owned by the parent company Peninsula Newspapers Incorporated. The paper ceased publishing in 1993.
- Acquisition information:
- Photographs were transferred to History San Jose in 1996 from the City of Palo Alto. Portions of the original collection were also transferred to other institutions.
